October 6, 2017 ~ Week 6

 

Dear Parents & Families,

We had a great week! We have completed 26 days of school. Thanks to all those families who joined us for the Back to School Night.  We (Gigi and I) really enjoyed seeing all of you and watching the students share their hard work.
Reminders for this upcoming week:
Monday – No School
Tuesday – Walking Field Trip to Thetford Volunteer Fire Department (10:45-11:15 am)
Friday – All School Meeting
I am still seeking a few more volunteers that would like to join us on the Field Trip to Cedar Circle Farm on Wednesday, October 18th.  Please make sure to get in touch with me.  We currently have one parent chaperone.

Below are some of the highlights from this past week:

• We worked hard on our All School Meeting Preparations

• Students completed their narrative plans for writing

• Finalized our Bees and Flower display for our classroom

•Learned new Math WorkPlace games

I also wanted to mention that students are doing a great job of doing their reading and word study practice at home.  Thank you for your continued support with this! It really helps.

At the Back to School Night we asked for families to sign up to help out with preparations and operations of the Farm Stand the week of October 23rd.  Please get in touch if you would like to sign up.

Dear Parents & Families,

It was a great end of the month!  We have completed most of our assessments and are readying for reading groups.  Most of us have really settled in and are ready for our learning adventure! Welcome October!

Here are some highlights from this week:

  • Learned some vocabulary words related to parts of a flower: sepal, stigma, stamen, anther, filament
  • Dissected flowers
  • Recognized coins: nickel, penny
  • Flashed (with our fingers) how many days in school, today (Friday) was the 22nd day of school [10+10+2]
  • Introduced and used the Writing Process Wheel

Dear Parents & Families,

Welcome to the Autumnal Equinox! Today at 4:02 pm is the official start of autumn.  We had a great week in Room 104.  Please see some of the images from the week below:

 

This week we:

  • Learned about the honeybee as a pollinator
  • Visited the Garden with Cat
  • Visited the Garden with our 5th grade buddies in Mrs. Harrington’s class and took inventory of the harvest
  • Showed we could “flash” numbers with our fingers.  Ask your child: What is one way to make 24? What is another way?

Parents & Families,

Today marked the completion of our 12th day of school! It’s amazing to think that September is about half over for us already.  The leaves are already changing.  Teachers are working to prepare for our first Garden Visit next week. Autumn air is upon us!

This week we:

  • Finalized Our Classroom Family Rules
  • Worked with the Number Rack, learned about Number Bonds and alternate formats in math
  • Completed our Literacy Assessments for the Primary Observation Assessment (Reading level and literacy tasks)
  • Successfully smiled for Picture Day and completed our 1st Monday!
